One of the hallmarks of happiness is being able to give of oneself. And the joy of giving is amplified for those of us who were once at the receiving end.
Anderson Center for Autism became a lifeline for my family, at a time when I could hardly catch my breath as I struggled to be “supermom” for my two young boys. My eldest son Paul, now a grown man on the autism spectrum, has been thriving under the supervision of Anderson professionals since he moved to their residential campus at age 16. Prior to that, I'll never forget those moments of panic when Paul would occasionally disappear or make a beeline for the streets and have us chasing after him. In medical terms, it's called "elopement."
Having the support of Anderson enabled me to attend to my younger son Andrew, who at the time was bursting with energy and was eager for social interaction. Happily, Andrew is now flourishing as well--and he just got married!
Today 1 in 44 children in the United States are diagnosed with autism. Anderson Center for Autism's core philosophy is that all people deserve to live a life of quality. Their mission is to optimize the quality of life for all people with autism, around the world.
We are grateful for the life-changing gift of our extended family at Anderson. It's important for me to give back whenever I can. Which is why I’ve chosen to donate 5% of the proceeds from my online art sales to Anderson Center for Autism through the Anderson Foundation for Autism. I also support the organization through advocacy and fundraising; and by serving as a volunteer.
Thank you for supporting my work. And thanks for your part in creating Heaven on Earth.
